Ukrainian military band plays Bobby McFerrin’s ‘Don’t Worry Be Happy’ amid war with Russia

Over the centuries, in times of conflict, music has been one of the greatest tools of resistance. He gave people peace and also the strength to carry on. And the Russian-Ukrainian war can be no exception. As the Russian invasion of Ukraine entered the 14th day, a video went viral where a Ukrainian military band was seen performing Bobby McFerrin’s Don’t Worry Be Happy.

Standing outside the Odessa Opera and Ballet Theatre, the band in military uniforms were seen performing the song, as Ukrainian flags waved.

In the latest news from Ukraine, an official said at least ten people were killed when Russian forces ‘opened fire’ on civilians in the eastern Ukrainian town of Severodonestk, Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the number of people fleeing war crossing Ukraine’s borders to escape towns devastated by bombings and airstrikes has topped 2 million, in the fastest growing refugee crisis in Europe since World War II, according to the United Nations.

“Ukraine will attempt on Wednesday to evacuate civilians through six ‘humanitarian corridors’, including the besieged port city of Mariupol,” Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk said.

She further said that the Ukrainian armed forces had agreed to cease firing in these areas from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and urged the Russian forces to respect their local ceasefire commitment.
