Lavrov highlights negative impact of UK-Ukraine military-technical cooperation – Russian Politics & Diplomacy


MOSCOW, December 2. / TASS /. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said during a meeting with British Foreign Minister Elizabeth Truss in Stockholm that military-technical cooperation between London and Kiev is having a negative impact on regional security, the ministry said on Thursday. “The attention of the British side has been drawn to the negative impact of the intensification of military and technical cooperation between the United Kingdom and Ukraine on regional security and on Kiev’s approaches to respect the agreements of Minsk, “the statement read.

During a meeting with his British counterpart, Lavrov also called on the West to renounce the “language of sanctions and threats” vis-à-vis Belarus, the ministry said.

“Discussing the situation on the Belarusian-Polish border, Sergey Lavrov stressed the imperative of the West’s refusal to use the language of sanctions and threats in relations with Minsk,” the statement said.

The top Russian diplomat also stressed that London’s provocative rhetoric towards Russia was unacceptable. He stressed that the crisis in their bilateral relations was initiated by Great Britain.

“Lavrov urged the British side to establish a responsible bilateral dialogue based on equality and mutual respect of interests and on concrete actions to work out a positive agenda in Russian-British interaction and resolve a backlog of problems,” said the press release.

The two sides also discussed the situation around the Iran nuclear deal and developments in Libya and Afghanistan. The British side has also expressed interest in a dialogue with Russia on cybersecurity, the ministry said.
