What you did not have time to read, but you have to listen

When you really want to fall into the book, and there is no time and opportunity, then you should choose: either do not read at all, or look for alternatives. The audiobook is precisely this opportunity: it is not necessary to give it an advantage over the printed matter at all, but to turn to it if necessary – pushing a stroller, running on business, falling asleep in the dark, having a dinner with dinner, is still acceptable.

Especially when it’s not just a book itself, but a real cultural phenomenon, a valuable event: read by the author, complemented by a musical accompaniment of outstanding text. As an example.

INSIDER has not completely developed yet, though not the only one of Podervyans’kyi, the lively Ukrainian audiobooks market and offers you something that you should definitely buy, listen to and, if necessary, listen to it again.

Yuriy Vinnychuk, “Malva Landa

One of the main novels of Ukrainian independence is the great, extremely delicious, entirely Rabelaisian: the trash as the main location, dozens of unknowns to this monstrosity, the Sea of Borscht, the search for the mysterious poet Malvy Landi, endless travels, all-permeable erotica, specific, but from that only more sympathetic humor and, despite all that, it is a fussiness.

Not a fantasy and not a science fiction – one can call it Galician bizarre prose, but it is better not to call it, but to listen: it is possible that Vinnychuk in the history of Ukrainian literature will remain primarily with this book, and not with a much more serious “Tango death” .

Kuzma Scriabin, “I, the Pat and the Army

Among the domestic musicians who at one point decided to write a prose, Kuzma made the best: far from the indescribable, but despite this, firmly crushed stories, with the perfect and exclusively “their” intonations, in the unconditionality of which was their greatest charm.

Here and there – a set of light stories, very armed, “male” (obscenity plus entourage), where the candidate is trying to survive in the army, but alternately represents its most unappealing and ridiculously idiotic faces.

Very simple, extremely realistic and very in the spirit of Kuzma’s tales, because of something, but it’s funny to tell a musician-showman who knows for sure. It’s a great opportunity to stay in the Kuzma company for three more hours, because, yes, it reads him exactly, and who else is?

Yaroslav Gashek, “Adventures of the brave warrior of Svejk

30 hours (and four discs) of pure pleasure – this sounds like the sound of Schweik, is not the main idiot in history and literature, in which humanism and tragic pathos (because the war is still) not on grams – but there is a desire to survive and humor, which is extracted by some miracle: repetitions, speaking not there and not about the total and every second lack of meaning.

There are no cult figures of Joseph Lade, but there is the possibility of accepting the book as close as possible to the essence of its own genre – apparently a modern epic, which has long been perceived exclusively by hearing. The epic about the war, where there is no place for either the hero or God, only Švejk can be there. Extremely urgent. And very funny.

Bogdan Matias, “Conversations with God

Not so much poetry in the classical sense as the one mentioned in the title: you are conversing with someone who is not visible-he’s everywhere. Quiet – and that is fundamentally and definitely – joyful and sunny meditations, reflections on everything and a little more: “may I let you make mint tea or camomile do not offend / you know I often say nonsense and everything wants you to smile.”

Matiasch is one of the most original voices of his generation, and so generous to unbearable poets. Francis or Theresa Aviles could speak the same way if they were living and understood in verse. It is worth listening to internal hygiene, but also because it is generally a good indicator of culture, when books of poetry are still listening. After that, you should go to “Your favorite dogs and other beasts” – a continuation of the best of all that Together managed to create.

Yurko Pokalchuk, “Time is beautiful

Probably, our youngest – yes, yes – the sixties, who wanted to appear brutal and shocking, but in fact was extremely thin and penetrating, really, very similar to anyone. The virtuoso translator of Lloxi and Gene, Pokalchuk-prose writer buys with absolute sincerity and not the present, “purely authorial” romance.

His “urban texts” – and here it is “Odysseus, the father of Icarus”, “Rhythm (both read by the author himself),” “Time is beautiful,” “I, you, he, she”, ranging from a fairy tale to a fairy tale – about the main thing is: love, friendship, relationships, hope, beautiful daily life and exceptional passion. Atmospheric – that it should be listened to, whether in the evening shuttles, or in the twilight parks – and very good prose.

Heinrich Mann, “Young Years of King Henry IV

When tired of the “Card House” and it’s hard to watch “Tudors,” then it’s worth turning to Mann’s historical novels-in his own way, benchmarks and ones that looked at them, for example, our Zagrebelny, and the recent two-time boutique laureate Hilari Mentel.

In something very viscid, endless intrigues between Valois, the Bourbons, the Medici and Navarre, but not lacking in dynamism, “Young years”, in essence, represent the story of ascension to the peaks of power, where the blast of the ice winds of loneliness and friends can not be a priori .

About the youth, which is spent in bloody pogroms and dubious exploits “for the good of the fatherland.” There is a continuation – “Mature years”, but you will have to read it again.

“Favorite poems “, A-BA-BA-GA-LA-MA-GA

Excellent children’s poetry, because “verses” are too familial here, that the second generation is already growing on them: something resembles the reference “Alphabet” of the same publishing house, and something taken from Max Jacob, Lesya Ukrainka, Julina Tuvima and Nikolai Vigrinovsky.

The publisher himself, Ivan Malkovich, and the artist Benyuk, are, as a result, a product of such a level that they say “cover the subject”. Obviously, the mastech for young parents is how to read-recite the textbooks “Pumpkin in the city” and “Snow on the threshold”, but not only: remembering something wonderful from a long-lasting childhood did not hurt anyone anymore.

Taras Prohasko, “NeprOsti

Probably the best and definitely the biggest prose of one of the founders of the “Stanislaviv phenomenon”, in which it is also visible, a phenomenon, serious artistic possibilities, but which demonstrates the inevitable limits and deaf ears of this “method”. Magical realism in Galician, intimate mythological prose, our response to Marquez – the circle of definitions is approximately the same.

There are everything and all here: the mysterious Carpathians, the names of the characters who – both the names and characters – are constantly repeated and duplicated, the collisions that they are: on the face, ordinary, but through the prism of such a magic language will seem anything . Without a doubt, the victory of our literature, and not so important, how much borrowed here, and how much exclusively “his” – the focus was succeeded, a good book is written. Listen

Yuri Andrukhovych, “Lexicon of intimate cities

Essay is not essayism – it’s rather an artistic non-fiction, a trip to 111 cities – from Alupka and Antwerp through Jerusalem, Lisbon and Riga to Zurich and Yalta, according to the alphabet and writer’s personal experience. From small sketches to decent memoir stories – at these points a personal encounter with the historical, civilization with the individual, the province (Hust) with the metropolis (London).

Beautiful and useful – it looks like a transmission on National Geographic leads … well, yes, Andrukhovich – almost classic and certainly one of the most popular writers of the present, which has something to say, because he saw, indeed, a lot. “To tell”, because the author reads the book himself. Oh, and a good bonus.

Oksana Zabuzhko reads her poems

Charismatic, passionate, categorical, Zabuzhko and poems read the same: let it be somewhat old-fashioned, but professionally, “with knowledge”. The writer, this happened, is primarily associated with his outstanding essayist essayism, a little less – with infrequent prose, but her poetry, indeed, is little known.

A good reason to damage a hole in self-education is this recording, with the unobtrusive unobtrusive musical accompaniment, read by Oksana Stefanivna himself: the case when someone else would definitely do worse. “Jazz in Italian”, “History of heresy”, “Russian motive” – the poems here are different, but the level – strong, very decent – everywhere. There is still the poetry of American Sylvia Plato performed by Mrs. Oksana, but it’s already for connoisseurs.

Ernest Hemingway, Fiesta

It so happened that with the clues of the masters of novels, the bearded texts of the American and the now Nobel laureate gradually disappeared. However, some of them still have to remain obligatory at least to some kind of acquaintance, and “Fiesta”, of course, among them.

Written in a 26-year-old young journalist, this novel is not so much about the “lost generation” and posture syndrome (though it’s also), but about life as such: when death and love are literally right next to where corrida, pubs and hotels are normal living locations, and four men are struggling for one woman, and the virtues of the past, though the doom is constantly floating around somewhere nearby. After that you should definitely go to Spain.

Yuriy Vynnychuk, “Spring Games in the Autumn Gardens

Vinnichuk does not happen much. The first victory hit the writer on the Airborne Force Book of the Year with this novel, that it provocative and scandalous may seem like a boring pride and a principled (unhealthy) chastity. Of course, one needs to be careful when listening, but it is all “velvet” Alexei Bogdanovich reads – “Spring games” in public transport, but on the other – joy and adrenaline, too, is added.

Honeymoons of an elderly bachelor, who turn around the reflections on the human – and most importantly, the masculine nature, in order to turn to the end and in general something else: in a somewhat similar way, Marquez goes in “Memoirs of my sad prostitutes.” No chauvinism for you – juicy, fun, and mournful.

Yurko Izdrik, “AMTm

The last chord of “classical” Izdryka (“Wozzeck”, “Double Leon”), which after it will be a continuous ugliness. Not “novel” and not “book” – a piece of frozen magma, which can be viewed from all sides, outworn, bring to the light, twist and so, and so on. It is more interesting to try to perceive this “text for repeated reading” by ear, with a voice (in fact, from two).

In general, AMTm is a good test of your attitude to something more or less prose: not postmodernism, nor (why, where is it here?), But rather, in essence, a modernist game with language and form, when so many conceptualities, that she is ready to smother everything else. In a word, knock – and open it to you.

Sergey Zhadan, “Depeche Mode

Released in 2004 and read by the author next year, “Depeche Mode” is by right considered one of the first legal Ukrainian audiobooks, which was listened to at the level with “underground” Podervyansky. But the novel also read no less: the apocalyptic early 90’s, the romance of the “broadly interpreted” left-wing and total pofigizma, boy-and-male friendship, which will have to undergo the most difficult test – no, not death, but life, quite surrealistic.

Somewhere a bitter, and sometimes Homeric-funny – what the pastor Johnson-and-Johnson, his translator said by Irena Karp, is precisely this very unequal and to a large extent infantile book has made a cult figure to the writer. There is still the audio “Voroshilovgrad” – probably the best prose of the author, but the novel with Zhadan many began with the Dogs Pavlova, Vasya Communist, Sasha Carburetor and fat Caucasian.
